There are moments when I walk out into the world and the sun shines upon my face after a week of rainfall; I can’t help but smile as I compose pictures using my hand as a view finder. I am inspired by the silent moments in life that I often walk by and drive past, never having the time to take a second glance in the busy world of Silicon Valley. The exotic colors of a flower, the way street lights reflect off wet pavement, the way he holds her hand and she smiles in his embrace, the moments we take for granted, the beauty of silence compels me to take out my camera. Be it person, place, or thing, I long to capture a subject in its natural state of being, where it’s not knowing or caring and I’m not knowing or caring, both of us just living and breathing in the moment. Sometimes in black and white, sometimes in color, and sometimes in van dyke, images are created to reflect on the duality of life that is both timeless and ephemeral. -- Jenny Katherine Luu |
